Content of the Week - A Carousel You Should Steal, Unfiltered Video, and Army vs Navy

It's been a busy week here at Grow Golf HQ. From taking my sons to their first NFL game (Go Bills) to a West Coast trip for business, you could say I'm ready for a πŸ₯ƒ.

Some quick housekeeping items:

1) With the Holidays upon us, content of the Week will take a short pause the next two weeks. However, I will be watching πŸ‘€ to ensure the next update is filled with some great stuff.

2) The Grow Golf Social Media Calendar is updated for April 2025, filled with Masters week content and ideas. As a subscriber, you can download it here.

#CONTENTOFTHEWEEK

This week, we spotlight a great Veteran's Day event, an A+ Instagram carousel, and some great unfiltered behind-the-scenes content sent to us by one of our Grow Golf subscribers - Thanks, Joe!

Much to learn this week, so let's Grow Golf.

πŸ’― Keeping it 100. Three Things We Loved This Week

1) Above and Beyond for Veteran's Day

Metuchen Golf and Country Club (Edison, NY): On Veteran's day, the easy thing to do is just post a simple message on social media. While that's thoughtful, I found that Metuchen Golf and Country Club hosts an event that creates community, celebrates our veterans, and gives back to a worthy cause. The club hosts an Army/Navy Tournament, and it's a wonderful way to engage and honor veterans on Veteran's Day. By hosting a friendly competition between the Army and Navy teams, the club creates a spirited event that brings the community together to support an important cause. Raising $5,000 for the Johnny Mac Soldier Fund (Here is the link to support) demonstrates the club's strong commitment to supporting military members and their families.

Why? The Army/Navy Tournament showcases how a golf club can create meaningful Veteran's Day programming that resonates with members and the broader community. By tapping into patriotic sentiment around holidays like Veteran's Day and using a friendly rivalry between two military teams created an engaging competitive element. Last, and importantly, designating the event proceeds to a military charity aligns the club's brand with a worthy cause. Other courses would be wise to follow Metuchen's lead in finding a way to truly honor our veteran's beyond a simple social media graphic.

2) Unfiltered BTS

Jaren Hunsaker (YouTube): Jaren Hunsaker is a videographer, and has a small YouTube page. He posted this video this week of a behind the scenes video at Jeffersonville Golf Club. How did I find this guy? BIG thanks to Joe for sending this my way!

On the surface, the video is a basic behind the scenes video with Rich Shilling, Golf Course Superintendent, but after watching it, I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Why? What I like most about this video is that it doesn't try to be anything more than what it is. Jaren simply rolled the cameras and documented the normal routines and tasks performed by the superintendent and maintenance crew. There's no excessive production value or forced storyline - just a genuine glimpse into life on the course.

This type of content is so valuable for golf course marketing because it humanizes the club (or brand) with the audience. By letting viewers see the hard work and dedication of the staff, it cultivates a sense of appreciation for all that goes into maintaining a high-quality course. And the authenticity of it resonates much more powerfully than a polished, choreographed video.

Additionally, this low-cost, user-generated approach is ideal for golf courses looking to expand their content offerings without huge resource investments. Partnering with videographers like Jaren allows courses to tap into fresh perspectives and show a glimpse of the course members don't get to see.

3) Invited Clubs and Firestone Country Club

Invited Clubs: While this may have been posted two weeks ago, I just saw it, so it's new to me this week, and worthy of an inclusion in this week's list. Invited Clubs and Firestone created a super-simple carousel on how to enjoy a Fall Day at Firestone Country Club. Now, I've never been to Firestone, but if I ever get to go in the Fall, I now have a super-simple itinerary that will make me look like I'm a seasoned pro.

Why? I love this for a few reasons. First, the carousel gives specific recommendations for how to best enjoy a fall day at Firestone, making it useful for both first-time and returning visitors. The carousel layout allows Firestone to share multiple images and bite-sized tips in a scrollable, eye-catching way on Instagram.

Second, it showcases the course's amenities and atmosphere. By highlighting fall-themed experiences like cozy fire pits and scenic views, the content effectively promotes Firestone's ambiance and offerings.

Last, the casual, conversational tone and real-world perspectives make the content feel less like a promotional ad and more like genuine recommendations from insiders.

If you are a resort or welcome outside groups, this is a season carousel that should be created each season and pinned to your profile.
